Assuring success in music lessons is a team effort between teacher, student and parents. Remember that beginning music lessons requires patience. Parents: please be encouraging about the small successes and achievements of your child.

Attend beginning piano or voice lessons with your child and help them clarify lesson goals and techniques. Check their assignment book weekly and help them read and follow practice instructions. Know when to sit down to practice with your child and when to simply encourage. Help your child set a consistent time for practice every day, and insist that this time is respected by everyone in the family.

The quality and frequency of practice is important. Students may find more effective results are achieved with shorter two-or-three-a-day sessions. Beginning students practice in short sessions, about 10 to 15 minutes duration. As the student advances, practice periods will lengthen from 30 to 45 minutes to one hour a day.

Schedule times for your child to perform for appreciative audiences.
Provide and maintain the best quality instrument possible. Acoustic pianos should be tuned twice yearly. We recommend Ted Simmons, piano technician, at 637-0001.
