INTRODUCTION TO THE BARTINE STUDIO MUSIC STUDIO

AND STUDIO POLICY

It is a pleasure to share my lifelong passion for music with my students.  My sincere intention for every student is that his or her studies are a rewarding, positive and enjoyable experience.  My goal is to awaken in each student a lasting love of music, and an ability to sing or play with assurance, joy and expressiveness long after lessons have ended.

Confidence and capability are built through sound technical grounding and musical understanding.  We study note reading, rhythm, sight-reading, technique, interpretation, theory, ear training, memorization, musical form and history, and how it all applies to effective and powerful performance.  We work to appreciate differing styles and the performance of others, and believe that our musical studies help to develop capability in many areas.

PRACTICE:  The quality and frequency of practice is most important.  Beginning students will probably only need 20—30 min per day. More advanced students will practice a minimum of one hour daily, five to six days a week.  Students may find more effective results are achieved with shorter two-or-three-a-day practice sessions.   Consistent practice and preparation of assigned lesson materials determines steady progress and a sense of achievement.

Help your child set a consistent time for practice every day, and insist that this time be respected by everyone in the family

SUCCESS IN LESSONS: Assuring success in music lessons is a team effort between teacher, student and parents.  Remember that beginning music lessons requires patience.  It is important that parents are encouraging about the small successes and achievements of your child.  You are encouraged to attend beginning lessons with your child in order to help them clarify lesson goals and techniques.  Check their assignment book weekly and help them read and follow practice instructions.  Know when to sit down during a practice session to help, and when to simply encourage.

PERFORMANCE: Schedule times for your child to perform for appreciative audiences such as family and friends.

YOUR PIANO: Provide and maintain the best quality instrument possible.  Acoustic pianos should be tuned twice yearly.  For tuning and maintenance I recommend Ted Simmons, piano technician, at 637-0001.

RECITALS, FESTIVALS AND ADJUDICATION: Students will be encouraged to participate in programs that further their goals of musical attainment and enjoyment, such as competitions, festivals and adjudications through the Music Teachers National Association, the National Guild of Piano Teachers, National Association of Teachers of Singing, and National Federation of Music Clubs.  Studio recitals and other performances are available throughout the year and are offered for the benefit of students.

SUZUKI method lessons are available for beginning piano students from the ages of four to seven whose parents are willing to be actively involved in the learning process.  More information about this particular learning style is available upon request.

LESSON ATTENDANCE: Regular attendance at lessons is imperative for the progress of the student.  The traditional one half hour lesson per week is a minimum allowance of time for consistent achievement.   As your child advances, and their literature and technical demands become more demanding, the time needed for their lesson will increase, and your teacher may suggest a lesson of 45 minutes to one hour.

MISSED LESSONS:  Lessons missed with a minimum of 24 hour advanced notice due to illness, family emergency or family vacation are excused and will be made up.  The make up lesson must be scheduled within 30 days of the cancellation.  It is the student’s responsibility to schedule a makeup lesson time.  It is understood that sudden illness or emergency may occur and these lessons will be made up at the teacher’s discretion.   Tuition fees are not refundable.

Mrs. Bartine may miss a lesson, but will always give at least 48 hour’s notice.  Lessons missed due to teacher absence will be made up at the earliest possible time.

FEES AND TUITION

Tuition is payable one month in advance, and is due at the first lesson of each month.  Monthly statements will not be issued except for unusual months when I feel they will be needed.  Parents are asked to compute the amount due by multiplying the lesson fee times the number of lessons in the month.

30 minute lesson-$24.00 per lesson

45 minute lesson–$33.00 per lesson

60 minute lesson–$40.00 per lesson

.I will give you a statement for the cost of music and materials purchased for the student during the previous month, which should be added to the next month’s lesson fee.  There will be occasional audition, festival or field trip fees, which will be billed.  Cash or checks are acceptable

Parents, please sign one copy of this policy statement for my records and keep the other copy for your own reference.

I have read and understand the above Studio Policy statement, and wish enroll my child, __________________ for lessons for the academic year, which ends   May 23, 2010.
